Personal Philosophy of Nursing Essay

What is nursing?

Nursing is the art and science of caring for others using knowledge, skills, and professional judgment (DeLaune et al., 2019). It is the process of caring for people, whether in the hospital or at home. The central goal of nursing is to promote the health and wellness of patients by helping them cope with their illness or injury and providing them with the tools they need to recover. Nurses can provide care in various settings, from hospitals to clinics and private homes.

What is nursing for me?

My definition of nursing is that nursing is the practice of caring for, comforting, and healing people. It is a human science that involves the study of people’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs. Nursing also encompasses the art of caring for others by providing holistic health care (Frisch & Rabinowitsch, 2019). Nurses are educated to provide health care services that include taking a patient’s history, answering questions about their health, providing information on how to prevent illnesses or treat them at home, administering medications and other treatments as prescribed by the doctor, and assisting in surgery when needed.

The art of nursing is the human side of it—the heart-to-heart connection between nurse and patient, which can make all the difference in their recovery. The science of nursing is the scientific knowledge that nurses use to diagnose patients, prescribe treatments, and monitor their progress (Silva & da, 2020). And the profession of nursing is the business side: licensing requirements, credentialing systems, and so on.

Common health assumptions or underlying beliefs of patients

Common health assumptions or the underlying patients’ beliefs include; that a single doctor and their treatment will cure the patient. The doctor is always right, so you should trust their opinion. You are only allowed to complain when it’s something serious, like pain or sickness. Health problems can be solved with medication, but not with lifestyle change. If you don’t feel sick, then you must be healthy.

Q5. My assumption and belief about health are that it’s a state of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This means that I believe that if you’re happy, you will be healthier. Health is more than just the absence of disease or injury. It is not just the absence of pain or discomfort (Silva & da, 2020). It is a dynamic state in which all parts of the body work together to support optimal functioning.

Q6a). The patient is the person who needs care, treatment, or assistance. A person being cared for by a nurse or other medical professional.

b). Environment is the place where the patient receives care from a nurse or other medical professional (Suresh, 2021).

c). Health refers to a state of freedom from injury or disease; a person’s state of physical, social, and mental well-being.

d). Nursing is the practice of caring for others by providing direct medical care (Suresh, 2021).

Q7 a). A patient is a person who is receiving health care. A patient may be in a hospital, a nursing home, or another facility that provides medical care. He/she can be ill and has come to the hospital because they or need help to get better.

b). Environment refers to the place where the patient is receiving health care. The environment can be an office, clinic, hospital room, etc. (DeLaune et al., 2019). The environment influences the patients’ response to the treatment offered.

c). Health refers to a complete physical, social, mental and well-being, not only the absence of infirmity or disease. It is an individual’s level of maximum performance and how well the body functions, and how it looks on the outside. Health is an important part of keeping people alive and healthy.

d). Nursing is a profession that focuses on promoting, maintaining, or restoring health through the study, research, and practice of the biological, physical, and social sciences with a holistic approach to health care (Berman et al., 2018). It is an art and science that aims at promoting individual health, fostering recovery, and preventing diseases.

Q8. The major domains include physical health and wellness. In my clinical experience, I was assigned to a patient who was in the hospital with a stroke. The patient had experienced some paralysis on one side of her body, and it was unclear whether that paralysis would be permanent. We performed tests to determine this and other factors about the patient’s condition, including an MRI. In terms of physical nursing care, we regularly monitored the patient’s blood pressure and heart rate to ensure they were within normal ranges (Berman et al., 2018). We also checked her posture regularly so that she wouldn’t fall or get bed sores.

Q9 a). The domains are connected because they all have a common goal: to improve the lives of patients, families, and communities (Mathad et al., 2019). The domains are also connected in that they need each other to do their jobs well. For example, the health care team needs to understand how to provide high-quality care for their patients to live better lives and avoid complications later on.

b). My vision of nursing for the future is that nurses are held in high esteem by doctors and other medical professionals and the public at large. Nurses should be seen as an integral part of any medical team (Suresh, 2021). They should be recognized for what they do every day—which is providing direct patient care and keeping up with the latest research so that they can make sure that all patients are getting the best possible treatment available anywhere in the world today.

c). The challenges I will face as a nurse include finding time to keep up on all of my continuing education requirements while still taking time off from work (or working nights or weekends).

d). My goal in professional development is simply to keep learning: every day, there are new things out there that are worth learning about.
