Concepts Of Teaching And Learning

In a Microsoft Word document of 6-7 pages formatted in APA 7 style, submit your instructional unit (care plan), which should include three lesson plans: one focused on patient education, one on family education, and one on staff development. Remember, your plans should demonstrate a logical approach to teaching, communicate what is to be taught and how, and outline how objectives are to be evaluated. For a refresher on what each final lesson should include (see attachment).

Building on the work that you started in Week 2 (see attachment), for all three groups of learners:

· Write two broad instructional goals for the educational experience for each group.

· For each learner group, write at least one learning objective related to each of the domains of Bloom’s taxonomy:

o Cognitive

o Affective

o Psychomotor

· Describe the lesson content.

· Provide a sequence for teaching activities.

· Describe instructional methods.

· Indicate time allotted for each activity.

· Identify and describe the instructional resources (materials, tools, etc.) and technology to be used.

· Describe how the learning will be evaluated.

On a separate references page, cite all sources using APA 7 format.

Please note that the title and reference pages should not be included in the total page count of your paper.

Cancer- Lesson Plan

One of the most effective ways of combating diseases is by teaching as many people as possible about their causes, symptom, treatment method, and prevention methods. Education offers the best defense against diseases, which are avoided through education and formation. Cancer is one of the most devastating diseases in the 21st century. It is estimated that in 2019, more than 9.5 million people across the globe died from cancer. The figure translates to about 26,000 people every day (Orlewska et al., 2020). The figure also indicates that 1 in every six people die from cancer daily. Researchers also project that the number of cancer deaths in the world will continue to increase in the coming years due to the changing lifestyles. One of the most effective tools against cancer is education. Individuals should be educated about the different types of cancer, their probable causes, symptoms, and the best way to deal with the disease. Through education, individuals can quickly identify cancer symptoms early enough to access treatment before the disease worsens. Coming up with a lesson plan is a critical way of educating people about the disease and spreading it to the rest of the community.

Three primary audiences will be included in the lesson plan, and they are family, patients, and staff. Families are the relatives of cancer patients within the hospital. The lesson planners will identify several cancer patients together with their families and include them in the lesson plan to get more information about cancer and the most effective ways to combat the disease. The patients selected to be part of the lesson are those that have been diagnosed with cancer. The lesson plan will also include patients on their part to recovery because they have great insights and experiences regarding what it is like to battle the disease. Finally, the staff at the hospital will form the third audience. The hospital staff includes nurses, physicians (the collaboration of a team such as the primary physical, Oncologist, and radiologist), as well as the support staff. The staff is included in the lesson plan because they deal directly with cancer patients and their families. Therefore, they need to have all the information about cancer so that they can answer patient questions. Including the staff in the lesson plan also improves their ability to offer quality services to patients because they will be equipped with adequate knowledge and information to contest different types of cancers.

The educational setting will be in a healthcare facility. A healthcare facility is an ideal location because it is where patients, families, and the staff can congregate easily. Holding the lesson in a healthcare facility makes it easier for educators to identify the right resources that can be used to make the learners understand more about cancer. A healthcare setting is the best setting because it will allow the staff to participate in the lesson while near their patients. As a result, they can easily alternate between offering their services to their patients and attending the lessons. Family education can be executed either in a healthcare setting or in the community. In the healthcare setting, the lesson planner can identify cancer patients and their families (Kaur e al., 2020). The families can then be provided with important information and lessons about what is happening to their relatives and what can be done to avoid such a situation in the future. Executing the lesson plan in the community is also important because it ensures that as many people as possible can understand the cause and symptoms of cancer, its effects, and how it can be addressed. The community is a good place to ensure that the education or information provided reaches as many people as conceivable. Patients will also be subjected to the lesson while in the hospital. Hospital planners can identify cancer patients and provide them with the information required to ensure that they manage their disease and prevent deterioration.

The main objective of the lesson plan is to ensure that learners gain a full understanding of cancer, the different types of cancer that exist, and how to prevent and battle the disease. By the end of the lesson, learners are expected to name all the major forms of cancer, such as lung cancer, liver cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer among others. Learners will also be expected to identify the differences between the different types of cancer and their major symptoms (María Consuelo Sáiz-Manzanares et al., 2020). Therefore, the cognitive objective of the lesson is for students to identify the different types of cancers and where they affect the body with 95% accuracy. The affective objective of the lesson is to enable learners to express their opinions freely and to be actively involved in discussions. After the lesson, students should have gained the ability to effectively search for different cancer resources on the internet or in other sources. Therefore, the completion of the lesson plan should present learners that are well versed in matters of cancer, their causes, and how the disease can be overcome.

There are several types of assessment methods that can be used to gauge the understanding of the topic by the apprentices. For example, the lesson plan will include oral and written quizzes, where learners will be asked several questions to determine whether or not they have understood the content of the lesson plan. Apprentices who manage to get more than half of the questions will be assumed to have achieved a moderate understanding of the concepts taught. Apprentices who get more than 80% of the topics will be assumed to have understood almost every component (María Consuelo Sáiz-Manzanares et al., 2020). Apprentices that get less than half of the questions correctly will be considered not to have understood the concepts taught in the lesson. If more apprentices get less than half of the questions, then the lesson plan’s objective will not have been achieved. The understanding of the learners can also be gauged through practical methods. Apprentices will be required to identify the different types of cancers by looking at charts, pictures, videos, and statistics. The correct and accurate identification of the symptoms of different types of cancer will mean that apprentices have fully understood the concepts presented in the lesson plan.

The topic of cancer was selected because it is currently one of the leading healthcare challenges globally. Cancer is claiming many victims because medical professionals have not yet come up with an effective treatment method. Currently, medical professionals depend on chemotherapy/radiation methods, which are, most of the time, expensive. Chemotherapy also puts the body through excess strain leading to other devastating side effects such as organ damage, anemia, fertility, infections, hair, and weight loss (Tervonen et al., 2017). Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in different parts of the body. Currently, medical professionals have identified more than 200 types of cancer. Some of the major causes of cancer include exposure to toxic chemical agents, exposure to ionizing radiation, pathogens, and human genetics (Kim et al., 2017). The impact that cancer has had on different societies worldwide is one of the factors that influenced me to choose the topic. For example, it is estimated that more than 1.8 million people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and 2021 (Kim et al., 2017). The World Health Organization further projects that approximately 606 000 people will have died from the disease at the end of 2020. Lung, prostate, and colorectal account for a large percent of all cancer cases in the United States. The three cancers combined account for approximately 43% of all cancers in men in 2020. The three most common cancers in women are lung, colorectal, and breast cancer, accounting for more than 50% of all cancer diagnoses in the united states in 2020 (Tervonen et al., 2017). It is, therefore, important to educate people on the dangers of cancer and what they can do to ensure that they contain the scourge before its metastasis. Through education, people can adopt healthy lifestyles and abandon products that are likely to cause cancer such as tobacco use, too much sun and radiation exposure, in addition to untreated infections to name a few probable issues.

In summation, the implementation of the lesson plan through the right methods of educating is critical in achieving its objectives. Since the target audiences are patients, families, and staff members, it is essential to customize the teaching language so that everyone can grasp the major concepts, whether your young or old. Cancer is the topic chosen for the lesson plan because it is one of the leading healthcare challenges in the United States and the rest of the world with no definite cure. Educating people about cancer will help them shield and manage the disease more effectively and in a timely manner.
