Assessment 1 Instructions: Proposing Evidence-Based Change

  • Propose a change to one aspect of your local or regional health care system or program that would improve outcomes. Then, conduct a comparative analysis of other, non-U.S. health care systems, focusing on the proposed change. Summarize the proposed change and your comparative analysis in a 4-5 page report.

Introduction

Note: Complete the assessments in the order in which they are presented.

Health care systems around the world provide useful models for analysis. Familiarity with different models and approaches to health care enables leaders to identify what works and what does not, as the basis for proposing a change. As we continue to evaluate the complex and fragmented system in the United States, it is important for nurse leaders to become familiar with the programs and systems that provide evidence-based quality care that is affordable and focused on continual improvement.

This assessment provides an opportunity to examine a local or regional health care issue from a global perspective.

Preparation

Your organization, in collaboration with the key stakeholders from the community, is funding an initiative to investigate potential improvements in the local or regional health care system. As a nurse leader attuned to the effects of health care policy and finance on the provision of affordable, high-quality care, you have been asked to join the task force conducting the study.

You know that an examination of other countries’ health care systems can provide a solid, evidence-based foundation for evaluating outcomes and identifying benchmarks. Consequently, you have decided to undertake an analysis of selected, non-U.S. health care systems and compare them to each other and to the existing local or regional U.S. system to help inform decision making as the task force considers proposed changes.

In this assessment, you will propose a change to one aspect of your local or regional health care system or program. Conduct a comparative analysis of different health care systems and summarize your proposed change and findings from your analysis in a report to executive leaders. To prepare for your assessment, you are encouraged to begin thinking about the non-U.S. health care systems you might like to examine. In addition, you may wish to:

    • Review the assessment requirements and scoring guide to ensure that you understand the work you will be asked to complete.
    • Review Guiding Questions: Proposing Evidence-Based Change [DOCX], which includes questions to consider and additional guidance on how to successfully complete the assessment.

Note: Remember that you can submit all or a portion of your draft report to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback.

MSN PROGRAM JOURNEY

The following is a useful map that will guide you as you continue your MSN program. This map gives you an overview of all the steps required to prepare for your practicum and to complete your degree. It also outlines the support that will be available to you along the way.

TEMPLATES

Use this template for your summary report.

Requirements

Complete this assessment in three steps:

    • Propose a change to one aspect of your local or regional health care system or program that would improve outcomes.
    • Conduct a comparative analysis of different health care systems, focusing on one aspect of the system you are proposing to change.
    • Summarize your proposed change and the results of your comparative analysis in a report to executive leaders.

The summary report requirements outlined below, correspond to the grading criteria in the scoring guide for Proposing Evidence-Based Change, so be sure to address each point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed. The Guiding Questions: Proposing Evidence-Based Change document provides additional considerations that may be helpful in completing your assessment. In addition, be sure to note the requirements below for document format and length and for citing supporting evidence.

    • Identify an aspect of a local or regional health care system or program that should be a focus for change.
    • Define desirable outcomes, including who will pay for care and factors limiting achievement of those outcomes.
    • Analyze two non-U.S. health care systems or programs that offer insight into a proposed change for a health care system or program in the United States.
      • Choose one of the following options for selecting the two systems or programs:
        • Option 1: Select two systems at opposite ends of the scale in terms of desirable outcomes for the issue reflected in your proposed change.
        • Option 2: Select two systems that both produce positive outcomes but take unique or innovative approaches to the problem.
      • Compare the outcomes in each non-U.S. system with each other and with present outcomes in your local or regional health care system.
    • Explain why specific changes will lead to improved outcomes.
    • Determine the financial and health implications associated with the proposed changes.
      • Address the implications of making the changes.
      • Address the implications of not making the changes.
    • Write clearly and concisely in a logically coherent and appropriate form and style.
    • Support assertions, arguments, propositions, and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence.
Document Format and Length
    • Use the Summary Report Template. This APA Style Paper Tutorial [DOCX] can help you in writing and formatting your assessment. If you would like to use a different worksheet for your community health assessment, obtain prior approval from faculty.
    • Your summary report should be 4–5 pages in length, not including the title page and references page.
    • Be sure to apply correct APA formatting to all source citations and references.
Supporting Evidence

Cite 3–5 credible sources from peer-reviewed journals or professional industry publications to support your comparative analysis.

Additional Requirements

Be sure to delete all directions from the template before submitting your summary report. In addition, proofread your report to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it more difficult for them to focus on the substance of your analysis.

Portfolio Prompt: You may choose to save your summary report to your ePortfolio.

  • Discussion Questions (DQ)

Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, including a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words. Successful responses are substantive (i.e., add something new to the discussion, engage others in the discussion, well-developed idea) and include at least one scholarly source. One or two-sentence responses, simple statements of agreement or “good post,” and responses that are off-topic will not count as substantive. Substantive responses should be at least 150 words. I encourage you to incorporate the readings from the week (as applicable) into your responses.

  • Weekly Participation

Your initial responses to the mandatory DQ do not count toward participation and are graded separately. In addition to the DQ responses, you must post at least one reply to peers (or me) on three separate days, for a total of three replies. Participation posts do not require a scholarly source/citation (unless you cite someone else’s work). Part of your weekly participation includes viewing the weekly announcement and attesting to watching it in the comments. These announcements are made to ensure you understand everything that is due during the week. NURS FPX6218 Reducing Heart Diseases Among Americans Change Proposal Report

  • APA Format and Writing Quality

Familiarize yourself with the APA format and practice using it correctly. It is used for most writing assignments for your degree. Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in Loud-cloud for APA paper templates, citation examples, tips, etc. Points will be deducted for poor use of APA format or absence of APA format (if required). Cite all sources of information! When in doubt, cite the source. Paraphrasing also requires a citation. I highly recommend using the APA Publication Manual, 6th edition.

  • Use of Direct Quotes

I discourage over-utilization of direct quotes in DQs and assignments at the Master’s level and deduct points accordingly. As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content. It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source. • LopesWrite Policy

For assignments that need to be submitted to Lopes Write, please be sure you have received your report and Similarity Index (SI) percentage BEFORE you do a “final submit” to me. Once you have received your report, please review it. This report will show you grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors that can easily be fixed. Take the extra few minutes to review instead of getting counted off for these mistakes. Review your similarities. Did you forget to cite something? Did you not paraphrase well enough? Is your paper made up of someone else’s thoughts more than your own? Visit the Writing Center in the Student Success Center, under the Resources tab in Loud-cloud for tips on improving your paper and SI score.

  • Late Policy

The university’s policy on late assignments is a 10% penalty PER DAY LATE. This also applies to late DQ replies. Please communicate with me if you anticipate having to submit an assignment late. I am happy to be flexible, with advance notice. We may be able to work out an extension based on extenuating circumstances. If you do not communicate with me before submitting an assignment late, the GCU late policy will be in effect. I do not accept assignments that are two or more weeks late unless we have worked out an extension. As per policy, no assignments are accepted after the last day of class. Any assignment submitted after midnight on the last day of class will not be accepted for grading. NURS FPX6218 Reducing Heart Diseases Among Americans Change Proposal Report

NURS-FPX6218 Assessment 2 Assessing Community Health Care

Assessment 2 Instructions: Assessing Community Health Care Needs

  • Assess the health care needs of a selected community by completing an environmental analysis and a virtual windshield survey. Summarize the results of your assessment in a 2-3 page executive summary.

Introduction

Health care must be evidence-based, effective, efficient, and affordable; it must provide resources that meet the needs of the community. Nurse leaders must understand and thoroughly evaluate the environment to enable the efficient and equitable allocation of resources. A useful tool for this type of assessment is commonly called a windshield survey. Windshield surveys are what you might expect from the name. They are a way of gathering information about specific aspects of a community while driving around, such as the condition of roads, buildings, and housing.

This assessment provides an opportunity to examine the prevailing health conditions and social determinants of health in a community by completing an environmental analysis and a virtual windshield survey based on communities within the Vila Health system. Although Vila Health is a virtual lab, the communities represented in this simulation are real, enabling you to conduct an actual community health assessment.

Preparation

Executive leaders at Vila Health have asked you to provide them with your assessment of the health conditions in one of the communities served by the Vila Health system. Knowing that a windshield survey is needed to validate any underlying assumptions about the needs of the community and inform evidence-based decision making and strategic planning, you have decided to conduct a first-hand exploration of the community, followed up by an environmental analysis. An environmental analysis examines the factors that can influence the performance of a health care organization, which is important in a rapidly changing health care environment.

To prepare for the assessment, you are encouraged to begin thinking about how an environmental analysis and windshield survey contribute to assessing community health care needs. In addition, you may wish to:

    • Review the assessment requirements and scoring guide to ensure that you understand the work you will be asked to complete.
    • Review Guiding Questions: Assessing Community Health Care Needs [DOCX], which includes questions to consider and additional guidance on how to successfully complete the assessment.

Note: Remember that you can submit all or a portion of your draft assessment to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback.

The following resource is required to complete the assessment.

Vila Health is a virtual environment that simulates a real-world health care system. In the various Vila Health scenarios, you will apply professional strategies, practice skills, and build competencies that you can apply to your coursework and in your career. The information you gather in this scenario will help you to complete the assessment.

TEMPLATES

Use this template for your community health assessment.

Requirements

Complete this assessment in two steps:

The community health assessment requirements outlined below, correspond to the grading criteria in the scoring guide, so be sure to address each point. Read the performance-level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed. The Guiding Questions: Assessing Community Health Care Needs document provides additional considerations that may be helpful in completing your assessment. In addition, be sure to note the requirements below for document format and length and for citing supporting evidence.

    • Assess, via a windshield survey, the general condition and needs of a community from a public health perspective.
    • Analyze the environmental factors affecting population health in a community.
    • Identify the social determinants of health in a community.
    • Summarize windshield survey and environmental analysis findings for executive leaders.
    • Write clearly and concisely in a logically coherent and appropriate form and style.
    • Support findings and conclusions with relevant and credible evidence.
Document Format and Length
    • Use the Community Health Assessment Template. This APA Style Paper Tutorial [DOCX] can help you in writing and formatting your assessment. If you would like to use a different worksheet for your community health assessment, obtain prior approval from faculty.
    • The executive summary portion of your survey and analysis should be 2–3 pages in length.
    • Be sure to apply correct APA formatting to all source citations and references.

Supporting Evidence

Cite 3–5 credible sources from peer-reviewed journals or professional industry publications to support your executive summary.

Additional Requirements

Proofread your executive summary before you submit it, to minimize errors that could distract readers and make it more difficult for them to focus on the substance of your assessment.

Portfolio Prompt: You may choose to save your community health assessment to your ePortfolio.

Assessing Community Health Care Needs

June, 2021

Community Health Assessment

A survey of the windshield is an essential way to collect information in a particular area (Villa Health, n.d.). These surveys are important because observers may examine a region and assess the community’s unmet requirements. A windshield survey helps the health sector design and carries through information of socio-economic factors including poverty levels, economic activities and community hazards to improve healthcare for a given population. (Villa Health, n.d.). The features and needs of each community are theirs. If you do not have a comprehensive understanding of these particular needs and their environment it may be difficult for practitioners to provide patient-oriented therapy. Notwithstanding its benefits, Windshield surveys are harmful because they favor quick decisions solely based on a field observation but do not grasp the reasons behind them. It can only be feasible for the erroneous impression to be based on physical assessments, so that changes cannot be initiated or carried out. This summary is intended to assess the health needs of Jordan and its cities.

The city of Jordan has a population of around 6,500 in urban and rural regions (Villa Health, n.d.). There are a lot of factors in the delivery of health care in this city. Jordan is home to two health institutions: St. Francis Health Center and Park Nicollet Health services. St. Francis Health Center offers emergency, ambulatory, and hospital health care services to local residents (Villa Health, n.d.). Also situated in this area, the Oak Terrace Senior Living Center provides a range of services, including independent, long-term and memory care (Villa Health, n.d.). The capital of Jordan has a downtown district with shops and public transportation for the lower to middle class. Unfortunately, none of the two health centers are near the city Center, therefore public transportation is an asset.

Executive Summary

Jordan is a town in the county of Scott, in the USA. The city’s many ethnic groupings include non-Hispanic whites, Hispanics, Native Hawaiians, African Americans, and Asians. Obesity and diabetes are two of Jordan City’s most prevalent health problems. Nevertheless, the city has social facilities and services well-equipped. The Jordan Community Education and Recreation Centre, for example, is home to Veteran’s Park. Two health facilities in the city, St. Francis Health Services and Oak Terrace Senior Living. All health facilities provide hospital, ambulatory, and emergency care.

Many religious groups, like the Methodist Church of Immanuel and the Lutheran Church of Hope, may provide spirits and additional medication via their prayers. In addition, many households have two cars on average. As a result, there is little usage of public transit. The development of lifestyle illnesses such as obesity may be explained.

General Condition and Public Health Needs

The city of Jordan has around 6,402 inhabitants. Among ethnic groupings of people are indigenous whites, Hispanics, Hawaiians, African Americans, and also consists of a good number of Asians. The most often known non-Hispanic is ethnic (68.4 percent), the least known being Asians (0.74 percent). (US BUREAU CENSUS, 2019). There are numerous religious institutions, which are mostly Christian denominations, according to the research that has been performed.

There are also many public and also private educational institutions in Jordan. The residential portions are highly maintained despite the absence of communities, featuring many roads, streets, boulevards and avenues. Many recreational facilities are also available, including parks and other public areas such as bookstores and pool parks. The street signs in the city have also altered to reflect the present political and social situation. The presence in the center and adjacent shopping centers, of empty buildings, is remarkably still intact and waiting to be inhabited by any company or business.

There are a number of major health centers, such as St Francis Health Services, located in Jordan City. In addition, because of a high median income of $61,592 and the poor poverty rate of 11.6%, many people have great access to health care (US CENSU BUREAU, 2018). However, all issues that individuals are facing include mental illness, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer and obesity (Severtson et al. 2016).

Environmental Analysis

The health of the community is influenced by the physical environment. The health-related variables include the socio-economic status of citizens, the environment, type and nature of employment, social assistance networks, the kind and nature of professions, neighborhoods, and access to health facilities (Artiga, 2018). The interplay of these factors influences the health and disease-prone nature of a population.

Most Jordanian citizens earn $61,592 in their high family and are 11.6 percent poor (US CENSU BUREAU, 2018). The bulk of the population can provide most health care services due to their high family income. This includes identifying, treating, and managing early diseases.

In addition, health insurance is provided for the majority of urban inhabitants. On average, 1667 people visit primary care physicians per year, whereas there are 2477 dentists every year. In addition, 1088 people visit experts in mental health annually. The ratio between physician and patient is 1667 and 1. In addition, there are many health facilities in the city, including St. Francis Health Services in which the Nicollet Health Park and Allina Health Services are involved to provide treatment. The Valley View Health Center, Fairview Hospital and Queen of Peace Hospital are other facilities offering emergency treatment to Jordanians (Villa Health, n.d.).

A significant number of students live in Jordan City, which shows that there is a high level of education in the region. Examples of such educational institutions are: Jordan Middle School, Jordan High School and Jordan Elementary School, along with plans to construct Jordan’s first University. These institutions offer education and artistic services, sports, and out-of-school activities. In many of these schools’ students may pursue vocational courses. The University of Minnesota, Minnesota State University, and a number of smaller colleges belong to high schools in the city. Located in the center of town, the Jordan Public Library provides both educational and interlibrary books. These facilities generally indicate that people value and pay for education.

The Lagoon Park and the Jordan Community Education and Recreation Center are also for the Jordanian population, which are recreational facilities. Other recreational sites are the Minnesota River Conservatory, Minnesota Valley Animal Trail, and The Minnesota National Museum. In downtown Jordan there are also many restaurants, stores, breweries, and winegrowing grounds, all offering the inhabitants of Jordan a wonderful experience. There may therefore be excessive usage of alcohol in many vineyards and breweries which may result in heart and liver issues and other lifestyle conditions.

Conclusions

As shown in the condition of the streets of Jordan, the shopping plazas and the neighboring villages, the city is generally in good economic form. In addition, most institutions are above poverty level with an average annual familial return of 61,592 $ and a low poverty rate of 11.6%. (US CENSU BUREAU, 2018). In addition, the people in general are less exposed to environmental hazards since retail employment are a major concern. Only a tiny part of the population suffers health problems because of its outstanding architectural and physical environment and the availability of leisure activities. However, difficulties in lifestyle, especially among older people, are frequent.

Do you handle any type of coursework?

Yes. We have posted our previous orders to display our experience. Since we have done this question before, we can also do it for you. To make sure we do it perfectly, please fill out our Order Form. Filling the order form correctly will assist our team in referencing, specifications, and future communication.

Is it hard to Place an Order?

  • 1. Click on “Order Now” on the main Menu and a new page will appear with an order form to be filled.
  • 2. Fill in your paper’s requirements in the “PAPER INFORMATION” section and the system will calculate your order price/cost.

SCORE A+ WITH HELP FROM OUR PROFESSIONAL WRITERS – Change Proposal Template

We will process your orders through multiple stages and checks to ensure that what we are delivering to you, in the end, is something that is precise as you envisioned it. All of our essay writing service products are 100% original, ensuring that there is no plagiarism in them. The sources are well-researched and cited so it is interesting. Our goal is to help as many students as possible with their assignments, i.e. our prices are affordable and services premium.

Change Proposal Template

  • Communication

Communication is so very important. There are multiple ways to communicate with me: Questions to Instructor Forum: This is a great place to ask course content or assignment questions. If you have a question, there is a good chance one of your peers does as well. This is a public forum for the class. Individual Forum: This is a private forum to ask me questions or send me messages. This will be checked at least once every 24 hours.

Identify the professional code of ethics

Identify the professional code of ethics

Identify the professional code of ethics for your professional specialty or a specialty that you are interested in, describe the decision criteria, and analyze each theory using examples and the Ethical Theory Matrix Template.

Moral Theories, Principles of Health Care Ethics, and Professional Ethics Codes

Ethics is a branch of philosophy devoted to the study of morality. Ethics has a long history of theories about determining right from wrong and identifying the principles of living a good life. For this assessment, you will be asked to apply foundational principles in ethics, such as autonomy and justice, in a relevant health care setting.

Each profession within health care has its own code of ethical behavior designed to help individuals within that profession to make sound ethical choices in carrying out the tasks and practices particular to their professional role. It may be useful to locate one or more relevant codes of ethics for your current or desired career path. This research will be beneficial to your professional development, and you will have a chance to apply it to the Tonya’s Case: Ethics and Professional Codes assessment in this course.

Autonomy, Truth-Telling, and Confidentiality

These are broad-ranging topics, which, if taken alone, seem almost comically simple. Of course, rational people of legal age should be able to make decisions concerning themselves and their minor children. Of course, medical professionals should be honest with patients, and, of course, patients should be honest with members of their health care teams. Of course, one’s medical issues should be kept private. But rarely are things as simple as they seem. Take some time to scratch beneath the surface, and we encounter myriad ethical dilemmas.

Honesty tends to be a revered trait in many cultures. However, many people admit to lying occasionally, especially if the intent is to spare someone pain, embarrassment, or anguish. Is lying to someone because of love, concern, or reputation ever ethical?

Privacy and confidentiality are also important concepts. But are there limits? Can the greater good ever outweigh the rights of individuals?

And at what point can others, whether an individual or an entity such as a government body, ethically determine someone’s actions, fate, or choices? Fluoridated water, smoking regulations, compulsory K–12 education, and speed limits are only a few examples of how we, as a society, agree to limited personal freedoms because these things are good for us.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

· Competency 1: Articulate ethical issues in health care.

1. Articulate the time-tested theories of ethics.

1. Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the time-tested theories of ethics.

. Competency 4: Explain the conceptual framework that health care leaders use to make ethical decisions.

2. Identify the decision criteria of the time-tested theories of ethics.

Preparation

As you begin work on your Ethical Theories Matrix assessment, it may be helpful to review the suggested resources focused on moral and ethical considerations. For your own reference, you may want to briefly jot down your thoughts related to:

. An inventory of the basic principles of health care ethics. These principles are nonmaleficence, beneficence, utility, distributive justice, and autonomy.

3. An explanation of each principle as well as your own example to illustrate the application of each.

Instructions

Drawing from the material covered in the resources as well as your own research, complete this assessment using the  Ethical Theory Matrix Template [DOC] .

. For each theory, first describe the decision criteria. The decision criteria are the instructions the theory gives for how to reach the morally correct choice in a situation that requires action.

. Then, provide your own example of how someone might act using the decision criteria of the theory.

. Finally, briefly describe the strengths and weaknesses of each theory using the last two columns of the Ethical Theory Matrix Template.

The suggested resources for this assessment could help you get a start on completing the matrix, but do not hesitate to use any outside resources that you can find online, the Capella library, or elsewhere.

This matrix is a tool you will use throughout the rest of the course. Submit your completed matrix as an attachment to this assessment.

Assessment 2: Matrix of Ethical Theories

Ethics assessment 2: Matrix of Ethical Theories

Ethics assessment 2: Matrix of Ethical Theories

Write a 2-3 page paper that explains and defends your view on the issue of whether or not patients with no other treatment options have a moral right to unproven drugs.

Introduction

Many doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and other health care workers are involved in medical research. The field of medicine is not limited to the direct treatment of patients but also involves the continued expansion of medical research. A large part of such research is clinical research, which puts patients into the role of experimental subjects. This raises a number of challenging questions for health care ethics, many of which follow from the fact that physicians, nurses, and others involved in clinical research have a dual role. As researchers, they are committed to generating new knowledge about diseases, developing new treatments and drug therapies, and, in general, helping to improve the welfare of human beings by eliminating or controlling diseases and increasing longevity. However, researchers involved in clinical research must also be committed to the highest quality care for individual patients taking part in research studies. This assessment explores some of the ethical issues that clinical research raises and some of the safeguards in place to protect the interests of patients involved in research.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Articulate ethical issues in health care.
    • Explain how the principle of informed consent is relevant to these issues.
    • Explain the costs and benefits of offering unapproved experimental drugs to patients.
  • Competency 2: Apply sound ethical thinking related to a health care issue.
    • Identify relevant ethical theories and moral principles.
    • Articulate arguments using examples for and against offering pre-approved drugs to wider pools of patients.
  • Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and respectful of the diversity, dignity, and integrity of others and is consistent with health care professionals.
    • Exhibit proficiency in clear and effective academic writing skills.

Preparation

When a new drug is undergoing clinical trials to be approved for treatment, it must pass through a number of distinct phases of testing. These phases require rigorous study and evidence to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of new treatments. Passing through these phases and achieving approval takes many years for some trials. Before approval, patients not part of a clinical trial have limited or no access to experimental drugs, even though these drugs could be helpful and potentially save their lives. There are various groups pushing for greater patient access to drugs still in the experimental stage. In recent years, the FDA has made it somewhat easier to receive treatment with experimental drugs, but according to advocacy groups there are still too many restrictions (Munson, 2014).

This leads to a potential quandary when early stages of research on a drug sometimes suggest that the drug could be effective in treating a certain disease. On one hand, offering easier access to early stage trial drugs could help individuals suffering with a medical condition. However, on the other hand, making early access to experimental drugs easier could limit the pool of patients available to participate in clinical trials that establish whether or not the drug is truly effective and safe. This is an important consideration, as the vast majority of experimental drugs turn out to be completely ineffective or could have very dangerous side effects that will only show up over time and across a wider test population.

When completing this assessment, it is important to keep in mind the ethical arguments that are relevant to both views regarding the right to experimental drugs. It may be useful to review the suggested resources and conduct additional independent research while you are planning your assessment submission.

Instructions

Do patients with no other treatment options have a moral right to unproven drugs? Write a paper that explains and defends your view on this issue. In addition to reviewing the suggested resources, you are encouraged to locate additional resources in the Capella library, your public library, or authoritative online sites to provide additional support for your viewpoint. Be sure to weave and cite the resources throughout your work. In your paper, address the following points:

  • Identify relevant ethical theories and moral principles.
  • Explain how the principle of informed consent is relevant to the issue.
  • Explain the costs and benefits of making unproven, unapproved experimental drugs widely available to patients. Consider the costs and benefits not only to the individual patients who take these drugs but also potential costs and benefits to other patients.
  • Explain arguments using examples for and against offering pre-approved drugs to wider pools of patients.
  • Support your view using ethical theories or moral principles (or both) that you find most relevant to the issue.

Additional Requirements

  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting guidelines.
  • Length: 2–3 typed, double-spaced pages.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Abstract (As this section is optional, check with your instructor.)

An abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of a paper. It allows readers to quickly review the key elements of a paper without having to read the entire document. This can be helpful for readers who are searching for specific information and may be reviewing many documents. The abstract may be one of the most important paragraphs in a paper because readers often decide if they will read the document based on information in the abstract. An abstract may not be required in some academic papers; however, it can still be an effective method of gaining the reader’s attention. For example, an abstract will not be required for Capella’s first course, PSYC3002. The following sentences serve as an example of what could be composed as an abstract for this paper: The basic elements of APA style will be reviewed, including formatting of an APA style paper, in-text citations, and a reference list. Additional information will address the components of an introduction, how to write effective paragraphs using the MEAL plan, and elements of a summary and conclusion section of a paper.

APA Style Paper Template: A Resource for Academic Writing

Please change the titles in this document to fit your paper

APA (American Psychological Association) style is most commonly used to cite sources within the social sciences. APA style is used when writing papers in the psychology programs offered at Capella University. This document serves as an APA style template for learners to use when writing their own papers, as well as a resource containing valuable information that can be used when writing academic papers. For more information on APA style, learners can refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (American Psychological Association, 2010a).

The author demonstrates in the first section of this paper how an introduction effectively introduces the reader to the topic of the paper. In APA style, an introduction never gets a heading. For example, this section did not begin with a heading titled “Introduction,” similar to the following section, which is titled “Writing an Effective Introduction.” The following section will explain in greater detail a model that can be used to effectively write an introduction in an academic paper. The remaining sections of the paper will continue to address APA style and effective writing concepts including section headings, organizing information, the MEAL plan, the conclusion, and the reference list.

An effective introduction often consists of four main components including (a) the position statement, thesis, or hypothesis, which describes the author’s main position; (b) the purpose, which outlines the objective of the paper; (c) the background, which is general information that is needed to understand the content of the paper; and (d) the approach, which is the process or methodology the author uses to achieve the purpose of the paper. This information will help readers understand what will be discussed in the paper. It can also serve as a tool to grab the reader’s attention. Authors may choose to briefly reference sources that will be identified later on in the paper as in this example (American Psychological Association, 2010a; American Psychological Association, 2010b; Walker, 2008).

In an introduction, the writer will often present something of interest to capture the reader’s attention and introduce the issue. Adding an obvious statement of purpose helps the reader know what to expect, while helping the writer to focus and stay on task. For example, this paper will address several components necessary to effectively write an academic paper including (a) how to write an introduction, (b) how to write effective paragraphs using the MEAL plan, and (c) how to properly use APA style.

Level One Section Heading is Centered, Bold, Uppercase and Lowercase

Using section headings can be an effective method of organizing an academic paper. The section headings should not be confused with the running head, which is a different concept described in the cover page of this document. Section headings are not required according to APA style; however, they can significantly improve the quality of a paper. This is accomplished because section headings help both the reader and the author.

Level Two Section Heading is Flush Left, Bold, Uppercase and Lowercase

The heading style recommended by APA consists of five levels (American Psychological Association, 2010a, p. 62). This document contains two levels to demonstrate how headings are structured according to APA style. Immediately before the previous paragraph, a Level 1 heading was used. That section heading describes how a Level 1 heading should be written, which is centered, bold, and using uppercase and lowercase letters. For another example, see the section heading “Writing an Effective Introduction” on page 3 of this document. The heading is centered, bold, and uses uppercase and lowercase letters (compared to all uppercase in the running head at the top of each page). If used properly, section headings can significantly contribute to the quality of a paper by helping the reader who wants to understand the information in the document, and the author who desires to effectively describe the information in the document.

Section Headings Help the Reader

Section headings serve multiple purposes including (a) helping readers understand what is being addressed in each section, (b) breaking up text to help readers maintain an interest in the paper, and (c) helping readers choose what they want to read. For example, if the reader of this document wants to learn more about writing an effective introduction, the previous section heading clearly states that is where information can be found. When subtopics are needed to explain concepts in greater detail, different levels of headings are used according to APA style.

Section Headings Help the Author

Section headings do not only help the reader, they help the author organize the document during the writing process. Section headings can be used to arrange topics in a logical order, and they can help an author manage the length of the paper. In addition to an effective introduction and the use of section headings, each paragraph of an academic paper can be written in a manner that helps the reader stay engaged. Capella University promotes the use of the MEAL plan to serve this purpose.

The MEAL Plan

The MEAL plan is a model used by Capella University to help learners effectively compose academic discussions and papers. Each component of the MEAL plan is critical to writing an effective paragraph. The acronym MEAL is based on four components of a paragraph (M = Main point, E = Evidence or Example, A = Analysis, and L = Link). The following section includes a detailed description and examples of each component of the MEAL plan.

When writing the content sections of an academic paper (as opposed to the introduction or conclusion sections), the MEAL plan can be an effective model for designing each paragraph. A paragraph begins with a description of the main point, which is represented by the letter “M” of the MEAL plan. For example, the first sentence of this paragraph clearly states the main point is a discussion of the MEAL plan. Once the main point has been made, evidence and examples can be provided.

The second component of a paragraph contains evidence or examples, which is represented by the letter “E” in the MEAL plan. An example of this component of the MEAL plan is actually (and ironically) this sentence, which provides an example of an example. Evidence can be in the form of expert opinions from research. For example, evidence shows that plagiarism can occur even when it is not intended if sources are not properly cited (Marsh, Landau, & Hicks, 1997; Walker, 2008). The previous sentence provides evidence supporting why evidence is used in a paragraph.

Analysis, which is represented by the letter “A” of the MEAL plan, should be based on the author’s interpretation of the evidence. An effective analysis might include a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the arguments, as well as the author’s interpretations of the evidence and examples. If a quote is used, the author will likely provide an analysis of the quote and the specific point it makes for the author’s position. Without an analysis, the reader might not understand why the author discussed the information that the reader just read. For example, the previous sentence was an analysis by the author of why an analysis is performed when writing paragraphs in academic papers.

Even with the first three elements of the MEAL plan, it would not be complete without the final component. The letter “L” of the MEAL plan refers to information that “links” the current and the subsequent paragraphs. The link helps the reader understand what will be discussed in the next paragraph. It summarizes the author’s reasoning and shows how the paragraph fits together and leads (that is, links) into the next section of the paper. For example, this sentence might explain that once the MEAL plan has been effectively used when writing the body of an academic paper, the final section is the summary and conclusion section.

Summary and Conclusion

A summary and conclusion section, which can also be the discussion section of an APA style paper, is the final opportunity for the author to make a lasting impression on the reader. The author can begin by restating opinions or positions and summarizing the most important points that have been presented in the paper. For example, this paper was written to demonstrate to readers how to effectively use APA style when writing academic papers. Various components of an APA style paper that were discussed or displayed in the form of examples include a running head, title page, introduction section, levels of section headings and their use, in-text citations, the MEAL plan, a conclusion, and the reference list.

Always begin a reference list on a new page. Use a hanging indent after the first line of each reference. The reference list is in alphabetical order by first author’s last name. A reference list only contains sources that are cited in the body of the paper, and all sources cited in the body of the paper must be contained in the reference list.

The reference list above contains an example of how to cite a source when two documents are written in the same year by the same author. The year is also displayed using this method for the corresponding in-text citations as in the next sentence. The author of the first citation (American Psychological Association, 2010a) is also the publisher, therefore, the word “Author” is used in place of the publisher’s name.

When a digital object identifier (DOI) is available for a journal article, it should be placed at the end of the citation. If a DOI is not available, a uniform resource locator (URL) should be used. The Marsh, Landau, and Hicks (1997) reference is an example of how to cite a source using a DOI. The Walker (2008) reference is an example of how to cite a source using a URL.

MSN-FP6030 Assessment 3 Implementation Plan Design

MSN-FP6030 Assessment 3 Implementation Plan Design

MSN-FP6030 Assessment 3 Implementation Plan Design

Develop a 4-6 page plan that will allow your intervention to be implemented in your target population and setting.

Introduction

Note: Each assessment in this course builds on the work you completed in the previous assessment. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

Even the best intervention plan will not be effective without a sound and reasonable approach to implementing it. The implementation of the same intervention plan can vary drastically between different care settings, based on the culture of the care setting, the resources available, and the stakeholders involved in the project, as well as the specific policies already in place. A successful implementation plan blends contemporary and emerging best practices and technology with an understanding of the on-the-ground realities of a specific care setting and the target population for an intervention. By synthesizing these various considerations it is possible to increase the likely success of the implementation and continued sustainability of an intervention plan.

Preparations

· Read  Guiding Questions: Implementation Plan Design [DOC] . This document is designed to give you questions to consider and additional guidance to help you successfully complete this assessment.

· As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Note that these questions are for your own development and exploration and do not need to be completed or submitted as part of your assessment.

. What are the needs of your stakeholders that are relevant to your target population and need?

. What applicable health care policy and regulations are relevant to your target population and need?

. How will these considerations impact the development of your Intervention Plan Design assessment?

. How can you work these considerations into the development of your Implementation Plan Design assessment?

Instructions

Note: The assessments in this course are sequenced in such a way as to help you build specific skills that you will use throughout your program. Complete the assessments in the order in which they are presented.

Your implementation plan design will be the third section of your final project submission. The goal for this is to design a plan that will allow your intervention to be implemented in your target population and setting. You should be able to preserve the quality improvement outcomes that you designed for your target population and setting while also ensuring that the intervention does not put undue stress on the health care setting’s resources or violate any policies or regulations. Provide enough detail so that the faculty member assessing your implementation plan design will be able to provide substantive feedback that you will be able to incorporate into the final draft of your project.

At minimum, be sure to address the bullet points below, as they correspond to the grading criteria. You may also want to read the scoring guide and the Guiding Questions: Implementation Plan Design document (linked above) to better understand how each criterion will be assessed. In addition to the bullet points below, provide a brief introduction that refreshes the reader’s memory about your problem statement, as well as the setting and context for which this intervention plan was designed before launching into your implementation plan.

The population that I will working with will be 18 and older patients (inpatient facility) and the typically length of stay 7-10 days. Issues with placement or resistance to treatment can stay longer and a court hearing will be needed for these patients. Supporting family caregivers, assessing the needs of the family caregiver is important in this setting. Teaching essential skills to family caregivers ( nonverbal signals to look for or at , health care literacy, understanding the disorder, treatment plan, teachable moments that are useful to the caregiver)  Communicating with family caregivers (sharing information, discussion of common goal, family meetings, communication strategies, caregiver education).

The physical, emotional and financial stress on the caregiver being some patients can’t work and be self-sufficient .Caregiver strengths and limitations so nursing interventions can be put in place to support the limitations. Caregivers cognitive and health status (they have to be healthy themselves to care for others)

Modifying care plans with collaboration of caregivers (care plans have to be completed with caregiver input and capabilities in place). Working with nurses and social workers to find proper resources for caregiver support. The top five diagnosis on the unit at Jersey City Medical center is Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, and Borderline Personality Disorder & Psychosis NOS

My plan is to attend virtual family support sessions with social worker 3days a week in the evening, (will see the type of issues the family is having and want to discuss). I will engage in pre-court family prep sessions with nursing leadership (where patients are in court and being committed involuntary against their will) 32 bed facility only involuntary goes to court the unit has 21 beds for involuntary patients and 15 beds for voluntary patients.

Judge can order long term commitment in a longer facility, discharge home, continues the stay in the inpatient unit at Medical Center.

I will interview the family support person regarding common themes, etc. Family support person that navigates the family through this process. In my healthcare history I’ve since how stressful caregivers have been to the point where they’ve actually people the patients in live in facilities because of the behaviors. They weren’t capable of taking care of the needs of them. They would be okay but would attack the family, destroy the home, and just were very hard to handle in the home setting. The inpatient unit offer Individual support support groups, network with other families for support
