Compare the audiences, the rhetorical appeals, and the construction of the texts.
Consider the author’s credentials (the ethos). Why do you believe him/her?
Think about word choice. Analyze the rhetorical strategies of these authors by discussing the rhetorical
appeals – ethos, pathos and logos. Use the handouts in Content to further your understanding of the
appeals. Read W-8 “Arguments” and W-9 “Rhetorical Analysis” in The Little Seagull Handbook.
