Description
For this assignment, think of a business situation where there will be a need to store and manipulate a reasonable amount of data. Most businesses need to have some kind of database to keep track of items like customers, inventory, sales, and/or personnel. There could be many other types of data needs. Your solution will be implemented on a stand-alone computer using the MySQL DBMS.
Once you have decided on a particular business scenario, create a proposal that thoroughly describes the following aspects of the business and its data needs:
- The type of business and a fictitious business name for the business.
- What are types of data the business will need to maintain in the database?
- Why does the business need to maintain this data?
- How will the data be grouped into separate groupings?
- Who will be working with the database data (which members or employees), what data will they be allowed to work with, and what are their restrictions when using the data, e.g. read only, update, add data?
- Any additional information that you may deem important.
Remember, the more thoroughly you describe these requirements, the easier it will be to create design, develop, and implement the database in future modules. Try to imagine actually working in the business that you propose and what the database users will need to satisfactorily perform their duties for the business. Also consider what types of information management may need in the future when the database has enough data to support business management tasks.
Lastly, consider that for your project the database implementation will be a small prototype that could be used as a demonstration database. An overly large database solution would be a lot of work and you may find it difficult to accomplish the necessary tasks for this project. Feel free to work with your instructor so that you can determine a reasonably sized proposal (1-2 pages) for this project.

Initial responses to the DQ should address all components of the questions asked, including a minimum of one scholarly source, and be at least 250 words. As Masters’ level students, it is important that you be able to critically analyze and interpret information from journal articles and other resources. Simply restating someone else’s words does not demonstrate an understanding of the content or critical analysis of the content. It is best to paraphrase content and cite your source.
