Locating Credible Databases and Research

Nursing is based on evidence-based practices, and the term is being used frequently these days. Evidence-based practices mean looking for the best evidence for a specific problem in the literature and implementing it to the problem. The nurses are often considered the main stakeholders of the healthcare system because they have to perform important duties. It has been seen that the diagnosis of a problem always remains a confusing task for the nurses. If the proper diagnosis is not made, the disease will continue to increase, and the problem will become adverse.

EBP suggests that the lack of good administration and guidance leads the nurses to suffer from low confidence and not perform well in hospital settings. The current situation is about a newly hired nurse who treats a patient suffering from postpartum pain. The nurse is newly hired, and she has no idea how to implement EBP to diagnose the patient. The discussion will elaborate on the communication strategies to help the new nurse in her patient’s diagnosis. Suggestions on how to implement the credible resources of EBP and how to come with the best resources will presented as well. A list of best evidence-based resources will also be provided.

Communication Strategies to Encourage Diagnosis-Based Research

It is suggested that the nurses should continue learning in hospital practice (citation). The experience gained by learning from the senior nurses is long-term and quite effective (citation). The senior nurses guide the new nurses to handle the complex situation and inform them how to make a competent decision while handling the patient (Skaggs, 2018).

The seniors communicate with them to ensure that the new nurses understand the importance of empathy, respect, and compassion in the profession (citation). The senior nurses should conduct the listening sessions or should listen to unplanned nurses’ queries ( what is this referring to? Vague)(citation) . They must appreciate them if the new nurses receive positive feedback from the patients (Melnyk, 2018).

CRAAP stands for Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose ( Verbatim from source. requires citation and paraphrasing ). The CRAAP test is used in nursing practice to evaluate credible or evidence-based sources so the nurses may understand their issues. The tool provides a complete checklist that helps the nurses check the online resources whether they meet the criteria to help diagnose. The tool is helpful for nurses to reach evidence-based research practices. These online resources can be found on the internet and in hospital’s published booklets (Schaefer, 2018).

Identification of Five Sources for Evidence of Clinical Diagnosis

The five credible resources for nursing research are as follows: The Cochrane Library is a collection of databases and articles that provide evidence-based literature to help nurses make the right decision during the treatment (citation). Medline via PubMed is another source present since the 1960s to help nurses implement evidence-based knowledge in practice (citation). The other resources include NCBI, Sage Journals, and Scopus. Scopus includes 5000 publishers’ researched databases and articles that help nurses get the required knowledge (Horntvedt, 2018).

Explanation of Why the Sources Provide the Best Evidence

All of the resources mentioned above are reliable, cost-effective, and are easily available to the nurses. Only SAGE journals require subscription or permission from the institution, so the hospitals have usually taken the subscriptions for the nurses. The articles are open and free, and most of the time, they are peer-reviewed articles that help the nurses to read a lot of relevant literature (Camargo, 2018).

Conclusion

The guidance and communication strategies in nursing are important because the newcomers do not know how to implement certain knowledge in a specific situation. Evidence-based research is complicated, and it requires practice to decide when and what to apply. So, the communication between the senior and junior nurses improves the quality of healthcare delivery, for the benefit of the patient and the institution.
