Individuals tend to attribute positive occurrences to intrinsic, global, and permanent reasons while crediting adverse events to extrinsic, local, and unpredictable motivations, which is known as Self-Serving Attribution Bias (SSAB). SSAB is seen as an example of the purpose of self-enhancement, which aims to preserve self-esteem. Since maintaining one’s self-esteem is the most significant indicator of well-being in nations with a strongly individualistic culture, researchers have hypothesized that SSAB may be linked to well-being. Most research, however, has relied on evaluating negative symptoms like anxiety or depression as indirect indicators of well-being.

The relationships among coping approaches, SSAB, and psychological well-being were explored in this analysis. SSAB had an indirect impact on life satisfaction via affect balance, according to the findings. Moreover, SSAB had both a direct and an indirect effect on affect balance, with the latter occurring due to the employment of constructive cognitive restructuring and problem-solving coping mechanisms as opposed to avoidance. These results imply that programs promoting well-being should encourage problem-solving and productive cognitive restructuring coping methods and support good attributional patterns (Sanjuán & Magallares, 2013).

The findings demonstrate that SSAB is directly connected to affect balance and life satisfaction and has an inverse association with measures of emotional distress. The research showed that SSAB was negatively correlated with avoidance tactics and favorably related to Problem Solving and Positive Cognitive Restructuring (PS and PCR) coping techniques. Additionally, the study demonstrated that affect balance, a component of SSAB, indirectly influences life satisfaction. According to the research, SSAB is a healthy method of situational explanation and acts as a buffer against emotional pain. Excessive self-enhancement biases, however, may result in psychological suffering, hazardous conduct, and social rejection, according to the research. The research indicates that treatments should focus on this goal to create internal, stable, and global attributions for sound events and external, unstable, and particular attributions for negative ones (Sanjuán & Magallares, 2013).

Two hundred-five individuals (90 males and 115 women) in managerial positions from various firms in metropolitan regions of Spain participated in the research. In addition to participate in the study, participants had to complete a guidebook containing a variety of questions, such as the Attributional Style Questionnaire (quantitative approach), the Negative and Positive Timeline, Coping Strategies Preference Inquiry, and Satisfaction with Life Scale. The study aimed to examine the connections between managers’ attributional styles, coping mechanisms, affective balance, and life happiness (Sanjuán & Magallares, 2013).

For instance, the nurse may work with the patient to change their attributional style toward external and unstable causes and promote more active coping strategies if the patient exhibits a self-serving attributional bias and a propensity to utilize avoidant coping mechanisms. Also, nurses may monitor their patients’ sense of equilibrium and level of contentment with their lives and utilize this data to modify their treatment plans and actions. Nursing professionals may improve patient outcomes and advance general well-being by using a holistic approach to patient care focusing on cognitive and emotional elements (Sanjuán & Magallares, 2013).
