2. Construct a graph depicting the incidence rates for the disease during each of the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and the U.S.*
   • Write 4-5 sentences describing and comparing the trends in each of the three geographic areas.
3. Construct two pie charts showing the distribution of cases of the disease by age group in 2016. One should be for Florida and the other for Miami-Dade County. If there are fewer than 20 cases of the disease in Miami-Dade County during 2016, combine three years of data (2014-2016).*
   • Write 3-4 sentences describing and comparing the distribution of cases of disease in the two geographic areas.
4. Construct a table depicting the incidence rates of the disease by sex during each of the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 in Miami-Dade County and Florida.
   • Write 4-5 sentences describing and comparing the incidence rates of the disease by sex between the two areas and the trends in each of the two areas.

Instructions for obtaining estimates for U.S. population 2012 to 2016

1. Go to this page: www.census.gov (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
2. Click on “surveys/programs” featured horizontally on top, then select “All surveys & Programs”
3. Scroll down, select page 5, there you will find “Population and Housing Unit Estimates”
4. Move the cursor over “Data” on the left column, select “Tables” and then “National Population Totals”
5. Select the tab for 2017, if not already selected
6. Select “Annual Estimates of the Resident Population for the United States, Regions, States, and Puerto Rico: April 1, 2010 to July 1, 2017 (NST-EST2017-01)”. You can click on “excel”, and you will get the table in excel format. Or you can click on “View this table in American FactFinder” to see a table in html.

Note: When constructing the graphs and charts, follow the guidelines provided in the lecture with respect to format, title, source, and other standard elements of the charts and graphs. The counts and rates will appear in the Florida Health Charts. You may use these. But, it would be excellent practice to calculate at least a few by hand, and check with the Florida Health Charts. In calculating the incidence rates, you can use the denominator population provided in Florida Health Charts.

*If there are no data available for the years 2012—2016, then select the most recent years for which data are available, throughout the assignment.
