Police officers can learn from the actions of other police officers. Our motivation shouldn’t be to pick out the wrong actions and make a determination that the officer is a good or bad officer; but to judge what the action was, did it work. what might have worked better? If an action by the officer didn’t positively contribute to the situation, why? Was is because it was done incorrectly, was it because it was the wrong action to be taken? What action may have been a better choice or what needs to be done to make the use of force choice work next time?

On your own watch the video that has been assigned to your group. After conferring with your group, write a paper commenting on the following topics:

1. What police tactics were done well? Why?

2. What police tactics were not done well (in your opinion) and should be addressed by this department’s training staff? Why?

3. Would you have done something different? What? Why? Why not?

Traffic Enforcement

Reference a video-sharing website (i.e. youtube, bluetube, policeone etc), a media news source with video, or an article outlining the actions of a law enforcement officer in a traffic-stop related incident.

Complete a 2 page paper that discusses the actions of the law enforcement officer in the incident.

The introduction of the written assignment should include a short synopsis of the event and also the website where it can be found. Then, using critical thinking skills, common sense, and the tactics you have learned from your Skills Program up to this point, focus on and discuss how the situation could have been handled better and/or outline what the officer did correctly. This portion should encompass a majority of the written work.

· A conclusion that lists or outlines the Minnesota State Statutes that the subject of the video could be charged with stemming from the incident.

o Include all crimes that apply and the proper titles of the statutes along with the statute number.

o Cite your source for the statutes.

· Title Page. Reference Page, citing within the writing, headers and page numbers, etc.
